Upon request, ISM can provide insurance cover for you to do IBT Training on your own bike (at no extra cost). We also provide huge discounts if you bring another person to do the IBT Training with you.
ISM are the market leaders for IBT (Initial Basic Training) and approved by the Road Safety Authority. Simply put, ISM provide the best possible facilities; including new classrooms, a canteen, a purpose-built off-road motorcycle training ground with brand new fully insured bikes supplied at no extra cost. We conduct IBT Training over 7 days a week at our new premises located near Exit 5, of the M50 in Dublin.
New laws have been introduced regarding IBT on 19th January 2013. IBT teaches basic riding skills to learner motorcyclists and is completed in Modules. You can only move on to the next module when your instructor is satisfied you have learnt the necessary theory and demonstrated the practical skills to a safe basic level.

DIRECT ACCESS COURSES
CATEGORY AM – motorcycles not exceeding 50cc (eg. mopeds)
- (Minimum age 16)
- IBT Training required: Modules 1, 2, 3 & 4 (total 16 hours).
- Price: €475 (1:1 training)
- Note: We can provide Insurance for your "category AM" Bike when training with ISM
CATEGORY A1 – motorcyles not exceeding 125cc (Power not exceeding 11kW)
- (Minimum age 16)
- IBT Training required: Modules 1, 2, 3 & 4 (total 16 hours)
- Price: €525 (New fully-insured 125cc Motorbikes provided for training)
CATEGORY A2 – motorcycles over 395cc (Engine Power between 25kW & 35kW)
- (Minimum age 18)
- IBT Training required: Modules 1, 3 & 5 (total 18 hours)
- Price: €575 (or €625 1:1) New fully-insured 500cc Motorbikes provided for training
CATEGORY A – motorcycles over 595cc (Engine Power at least 40kW)
- (Minimum age 24)
- IBT Training required: Modules 1, 3 & 5 (total 18 hours)
- Price: €575 (or €625 1:1) New fully-insured 650cc Motorbikes provided for training
PROGRESSIVE ACCESS
FROM CATEGORY A1 to A2
- (Minimum age 18)
- IBT Training required: Module 5 (total 11 hours)
- Total price: €395
FROM CATEGORY A2 to A
- (Minimum age 20)
- IBT Training required: Module 5 (total 11 hours)
- Total price: €395
When you have completed your IBT course, your ISM Motorbike Instructor will record the details of your training in your RSA logbook and issue you with a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion. We also conduct Insurance Assessments (For AXA Insurance and Liberty Insurance); please ask us about this at the time of the booking.
