The direct access route is an option for someone who has never held a motorcycle licence before and doesn’t want to go through the process of learning to drive one of the less powerful bikes. The progressive access route allows motorcyclists fully licenced in Category A1 or A2 to upgrade to the next level. Category A1 motorcyclists who have held their licence for at least 2 years can move to Category A2 by completing Module 5 on an A2 motorcycle.
